Starmine, Minecraft server hosting

Frequently asked
questions

Everything people ask us about Minecraft server hosting and rental. If your question is not here, support answers by ticket, in French.

How do you create a Minecraft server?

Choose a plan based on your player count, name your server, select the version or modpack, confirm. Installation is automatic and takes about two minutes. You then receive a connection address to share and your panel credentials.

Which Minecraft host is the best?

A good Minecraft host is judged on four measurable criteria: processor frequency, latency from French ISPs, anti-DDoS protection and backup frequency. Add a panel in your language and a support team that actually answers.

Beware of vague claims like “unlimited resources”: a serious host announces the exact processor model and the allocated RAM.

How much does a Minecraft server cost?

At Starmine, 2.49 € incl. VAT per month for 2 GB of RAM and 20 GB of NVMe, or 1.25 € per month with 24 months prepaid. A comfortable server for an active community runs between 5 and 9 €. A heavy modpack needs more.

Everything is prepaid, with no automatic renewal.

How much RAM do you need?

Vanilla with 5-10 players: 2 to 3 GB. Paper with a few plugins: 3 to 4 GB. Public server with 50 plugins: 6 to 8 GB. Heavy modpack (RLCraft, FTB, Create): 8 GB and up.

Render distance, the number of worlds and the size of the map matter too. RAM can be increased at any time from the panel, pro rata.

How many players can I host?

We do not limit the number of slots. In practice, count about 12 players per 2 GB in vanilla, half that with a heavy modpack. RAM and CPU frequency set the real limit.

Is Minecraft hosting free?

Not with us, and we own that. Free offers pay for themselves with ads forced on your players, waiting queues, automatic shutdown after a few idle hours or heavily shared hardware.

We prefer recent hardware at the fairest price: 1.25 € per month with 24 months prepaid, 2.49 € month to month.

Can I try before paying?

Yes. Trial slots are made available every day: you test the panel, the console and the real performance before deciding. Trial data is not kept.

How do you install plugins?

Switch your server to Paper, Spigot or Bukkit from the Reinstall page, then use the built-in manager: more than 17,000 plugins installable in one click. You can also drop the files into the plugins folder via the Web FTP.

How do you add mods?

Install a modloader (Forge, NeoForge or Fabric) from the Reinstall page, then transfer your mods into the mods folder. The server and every player must use exactly the same modloader version and the same mods.

Can I install a CurseForge or Modrinth modpack?

Yes, both catalogs are available from the panel's selector, dependencies included. If a pack is missing, a ticket is enough: we add it. You can also import your own modpack over FTP.

Does the server support Minecraft Bedrock?

Yes. Bedrock versions are available just like Java, and a bridge like Geyser lets both editions play on the same world.

How do you enable a whitelist?

On the Configuration page, enable the whitelist and refuse cracked versions (online-mode). Add the allowed usernames from the Players tab, then restart. Only the listed accounts will be able to connect.

Can I change version without losing my world?

Yes. Changing version from the panel keeps your maps. Still make a backup first: some mods change the world format and going back becomes impossible.

What happens if I do not renew?

The server stops at expiry, but your data is kept for a grace period shown as a countdown in the panel. Once it runs out, the data is permanently deleted.

Can I change plans along the way?

Moving up is immediate, with no data loss, billed pro rata on the remaining time. Moving down is done by migration: the remaining time becomes reusable credit.

Can I migrate from another host?

Yes, free of charge. Download your world folders and plugins from your current host, install the same version with us, upload the files through the Web FTP, restart. Our support can go through your files with you.

Do my files belong to me?

Entirely. FTP access is full and permanent: you download your worlds, your plugins and your configurations whenever you want, with no justification and no delay.

Are backups included?

Yes, on every plan: automatic daily backups plus a manual trigger. Restore is selective: the world alone, the plugins alone, or everything. Storage is on a separate machine.

Is the anti-DDoS protection included?

Yes, at no extra cost and with nothing to activate. Filtering happens upstream of the network: hostile traffic is discarded before it reaches your machine.

Do I get an address without a port?

Yes, an address ending in .starmine.net comes free. You can also plug in your own domain name.

Can I give access to a friend?

Yes. Co-administrators run the server (start, plugins, backups, console) without ever seeing your billing or your payment methods.

Is a MySQL database provided?

Yes, a dedicated database with phpMyAdmin, included in every plan. Essential for economy, permissions or statistics plugins.

Can I schedule restarts?

Yes, from the Scheduled tasks page: nightly restart, scheduled backup or recurring command, at the time of your choice.

Which payment methods do you accept?

Bank card, PayPal, Paysafecard and Allopass. Payments are prepaid, with no automatic renewal. An invoice is issued automatically after each payment.

Where are the machines hosted?

In a Paris datacenter run by a French telecom operator, on 10 Gb/s fiber. For a player in France, latency is under 10 ms.

How do you contact support?

By ticket from the panel: it is the fastest channel, since we have access to your logs. By e-mail at support@starmine.net if you are not a customer yet.

My server no longer starts, what should I do?

Open the console: the error message is almost always there. The frequent causes are a plugin incompatible with the version, a modloader different from the mods', or a full disk. As a last resort, restore the latest backup.
