Automatic backups
A dated copy every day, without asking for anything, and a two-click restore from the panel. The day a plugin corrupts a map on a Sunday night, it is the only thing that matters.
What is backed up
Everything that makes up your server, not just the world. A restore puts the server back exactly in the state it was running in.
The world
All the worlds in the folder, including the ones you keep in reserve.
Plugins and mods
The files AND their configurations, in the state they were running in.
The configuration
server.properties, ops, whitelist, bans, scheduled tasks.
The MySQL database
A full export, restorable independently of the rest.
Restore, but not everything
Restore is selective. You choose what goes back in time: the worlds alone, the plugins alone, or everything. That is what lets you fix a faulty plugin without losing the three hours of building that followed.
- History dated to the minute, over several days
- Manual trigger before any risky operation
- Stored on a machine separate from the server's
- The server stops and restarts on its own during the operation
What a backup does not do
Three limits, stated frankly. Knowing them avoids the bad surprise the day you need one.
It is not long-term archiving
Five automatic backups are kept. The sixth replaces the oldest. To keep a world indefinitely, download it over FTP.
Restoring overwrites
Restoring replaces the current files. The server is stopped then restarted automatically, and what was built since the backup is lost.
One manual backup per day
The manual trigger is limited to once every 24 hours, so as not to saturate the storage. The automatic ones run without counting.
To keep a world beyond the rotation, download it through the Web FTP: the full folder goes to your machine, with no justification and no delay.
How long does a restore take?
A few seconds for a vanilla world, one to two minutes for a heavy modpack with its configurations. The server is stopped during the operation and restarts automatically at the end: warn your players, that is the only constraint.
Automatic backups, for their part, run with the server running. Your players notice nothing, apart from a very brief disk write.
