Knox County forgives nothing, hold out there until the first winter

Knox County does not need you to carry on. On a dedicated server, when the host disconnects, the others explore Muldraugh, fortify the base, water the crops and empty the warehouses. The world keeps your builds, your loot crates and the areas already cleared, and progress never starts over from zero.

As long as the game lives on your PC, the group only plays when you are powered on and connected. At Starmine, the server stays available continuously, on AMD Ryzen 9 machines at 5.4 GHz with DDR5 ECC and NVMe Gen4, in a datacenter in Paris. DDoS protection is included permanently, and your personal IP address is never exposed to players.

The panel includes a Workshop page: you search for a mod or a map in the Steam Workshop and add it in one click. The server downloads the mods at the next startup, and added maps are taken into account automatically, in the right order. You also set the server name, the password, the player count, and you launch a world reset.

Frequently asked questions about hosting Project Zomboid

How much RAM for Knox County?

Our Project Zomboid plans start at 4 GB, which covers a game between friends on the base map. Count on more if you add Steam Workshop maps or heavy mod packs, since every area loaded by a player takes up additional memory.

How do I add mods and maps?

The panel contains a Workshop page that queries the Steam Workshop. You search for the mod, add it in one click, and the server downloads it at the next startup. For maps, the load order is handled automatically, you do not have to edit a list by hand.

Why not host Knox County at home?

A locally hosted game stops as soon as you leave the game, and it exposes your IP address to the players who connect. On a dedicated server, the world runs continuously, DDoS protection is included, and your friends join Knox County even when you are not there.

Can I password-protect the server?

Yes. The server name, the password and the player count are set from the panel. You can therefore keep a game closed to your group, then remove the password later if you want to open Knox County to other survivors.

How do I reset the map?

Yes, the reset is available in the panel when the map is too looted or you change your mod list. Remember to check your automatic backups first, they are restored from the panel if you eventually want to go back to the old game.

How long until the first connection?

The server is delivered installed and started within minutes. You receive a free subdomain to pass on to your players, and you can follow the launch in the panel's live console. Starmine support answers in French by ticket if something is blocking you.

Can I hand management over to a friend?

Yes, the panel allows delegated access for co-administrators. They can then use the live console, the web file manager and scheduled tasks, for example to schedule a nightly restart, without you having to share your Starmine account credentials.
